The Peg Roberts Award
In 1983, the Camden County Chapter of the New Jersey Federation of Democratic Women established the Peg Roberts Award. Peg Roberts was a volunteer who gave her time and energy to the Democratic party to get Democrats elected to public office. Her successful efforts led to her own son, former NJ Assembly Speaker Joe Roberts, being elected to public office. This award was presented to various women in Camden County until 1999.
In 2005, the New Jersey Federation of Democratic Women re-established the award on a statewide level. The eligibility requirements include being an active member, in good standing in their county chapter; never having held elected office (other than county committee); mentoring a future generation; and 15 years of active service as a volunteer in the Democratic party.
The Peg Roberts Award is presented at the annual NJFDW convention. Since 2005, statewide recipients have been from Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Mercer, and Middlesex counties.
